On the Water

By David Johnson

Racing continues -- as I write this article we have now completed 7 Friday Races -- boy what a difference from last year -- lots of wind, cold and no sun. At least everyone is finishing and in the bar before dusk!

This year we have over 85 boats signed up for our almost world famous Friday Nights Series (3 series covering 22 races and a committee of 11 people). That's a lot of volunteers. With a new cruiser division and some different division splits this makes for some great sailing, fun and the usual exaggerated stories in the bar! If you haven't signed up already -- forget your therapist -- sign up and get out there -- its amazing what an hour on the water does each Friday Night.

June will be a busy month with lots going on, including the TYC / CYC Friendship Regatta, Women's Sailing, SSS Transpac start from CYC, Friday Night Races and Drakes Bay Race to mention a few. Also don't forget the Master Mainers Wooden Boat Show on June 24 & 25.

In July we are looking for entries to represent CYC in the Lipton Cup. It has been some years since CYC had a representative and it would be great to have a CYC skipper on the podium. Race 2 of the Corinthian Challenge is scheduled for July 8 and open to all CYC skippers and boats. The trophies are great and remember to fly your club burgee.

We are also looking for skippers and crew to assist with our Easter Seals Day on the Bay -- July 22 -- a great cause and a day full of smiles.

Speaking of something fun -- the club Lasers are screaming to be used -- plan a day -- take one out.

See you on the water.
