The Corinthian Women
By Esther Lerner Carrico

The Corinthian Women got off to a great start with a superb Board and many interested new member participants. The 2001 Officers and Board members are as follows: Esther Lerner Carrico, President; Karen Gilbert, Vice President; Marie Jorajuria, Treasurer; Edwina Serventi, Secretary; Marj Bundschuh, Nancy Giachino, Paula Hansson, Loretta Madden, Teresa Prescott, Lynne Richardson, Karen Rosenbaum and Sandra Solomon. We have many plans in the works for the benefit of our membership.

Online shopping is in the process of development so that our members can have easier access to Corinthian store items. We will begin with the basic red, white and blue shirts, polar fleece and hats. Watch for it! We are reviving the popular Cooking With Ian class so be on the lookout for the sign up sheets on the bulletin board. This is sure to be a sell out. Along with the price of the class you will receive your own Corinthian apron, burgee and all. The club store will be open for Midwinters Races, February 17 and 18, 2001 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

This year’s Women’s Sailing Seminar sponsored by The Corinthian Women will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 5th and 6th, 2001, and Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th, 2001. We are looking for Skippers to provide the use of their sailing vessels for this worthwhile activity. The Corinthian Women are planning to offer sailing scholarships to Big Sisters of Marin to brighten the lives of two teenage girls who will greatly benefit from this experience. We are in the process of working on the logistics. Corinthian Women, Instructors and Skippers interested in taking part contact Marie Jorajuria by telephone at(415) 332-1366 or by email at mariejj@hotmail.com.

Every year about this time we call on membership to contribute to The Corinthian Women by assessment of $30.00 for the year. This will appear in your February billing. We hope that you will indicate your support of our group by agreeing to this modest assessment which enables us to make available the many activities and services our volunteers work so hard to provide.

We welcome all Corinthian Women to participate in our meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Club library. Refreshments are always provided by our Board members. Ours is one of the best groups in the club exuding friendship, enthusiasm and comradery.

This year’s Annual Mermaids in Mischief party was an authentic pajama party and we did indeed take it very seriously. Although I could not convince Bobby Slayton that he would have more fun at our party and we might consider paying him more if he would dance for us, we managed to have a great night. The best story was Lynne Richardson’s: she didn’t realize she was so low on gas and had to pump gas in her pajamas, terry robe and piggy slippers. To make matters worse it was told that she had to walk to the cash register to pay in bright light no less. As usual the food was sumptuous buffet style. Marj Bundschuh was a perfect hostess bringing out her finest china, silver and crystal and rented a banquet table and chairs to accommodate all of us. Our poker game continued late into the night as we wrangled over Pokemon chips for gag gifts, the nature of which cannot be mentioned by this author. In the end we had four sleep overs and a good time was had by all.
