Opening Day Weekend
by Diana Fischer
This year the Corinthian Yacht Club will be celebrating the 40th Annual Blessing of the Pleasure Craft. The tradition conceived of some forty years ago by Staff Commodore Charlie White and Captain E. J. Towle continues to thrive today. With the continued dedication of Staff Commodore Milton Stannard and the tireless efforts of forty Opening Day Committees, this event has not only carried on the traditions of our past, but has adapted to the changes of our current times.
To commemorate our 40th anniversary of this event, our Club Members will have the opportunity to participate in a Club Panoramic Photo. The last Club Photo taken, commemorated our historical 100th Anniversary and is located in the dinning room alcove area. We are fortunate to have artist George C. Berticevich, photograph this special day. He has been a member of the International Association of Panoramic Photographers since 1987, and was given the Best in the World in 360 degree Photography award in 1995. George has taken several panographic photos at our Annual Cooks and Waiters Dinners.
The entire weekend is planned full of entertainment and fun. The Annual Corinthian Cruise In, The Boat Decorating Contest, live music and great food is the fare of the day. The decorated boat contest kicks things off on Saturday April 26th. This is always fun to attend even if you dont have a boat. The theme of The American Spirit: Stars and Stripes Forever will inspire our boats owners to decorate their boats for many prizes. The decorating and judging will have a back drop to live music and great food.
And on Sunday, April 27, 2003, Opening Day on the Bay, and the Corinthian Yacht Clubs 40th Annual Blessing of the Pleasure Craft.
This year the religious services will begin at 8:00am. Yeah!!! That means we hope more of you will be able to attend this truly inspiring and uplifting experience. Immediately following the religious service is the Opening Day Breakfast. The Club Panographic Photo is planned at 11:00am. This is your opportunity to be recorded in the annals of our Clubs long history.
Watch the TellTale and look for flyers for details of the 40th Annual Blessing of the Pleasure Craft on Opening Day.
