Commodore’s Column

We’re back from the Commodore’s Cruise and it was fabulous! I can’t begin to tell you about all the wonderful places we visited. Grab me when you get a chance and I’ll tell you a few stories. What I can tell you for now is that seeing Europe from a ship is the way to go. It was marvelous to wake each day to a whole new combination of sights and colors and vistas. I definitely recommend this trip to everyone.

There’s been a whole lot happening at the club. The 4th of July was spectacular. Thanks to Staff Commodore John Bogue, Master of Ceremonies, and the Men’s chorus, we enjoyed a special treat. We could even see all the fireworks without any fog!

There’s much more on the horizon. The clambake is on August 2. Then, on September 1 we have the Commodore’s Picnic. This year’s theme is “Captain Ron”; and no, it wasn’t my idea. But I can guarantee that it will be a lot of fun. Watch out for Captain Ron’s special rum drink. It’s sure to make you smile.

And now for the, “whatever happened to that old trophy” riddle. In 1926 CYC held a Perpetual Challenge Cup that was won by Arthur F. Rosseau on his yacht, Ace Albert. Arthur was awarded a 6 inch bronze medallion with a porcelain CYC burgee at the top. About 20 years ago it was found tacked to an old fence in the Peninsula that was falling down. It was then passed on to Lloyd Monaco’s (Staff Commodore of the South Bay YC) father who passed it down to Lloyd when he passed away. Does anyone know of Mr. Rosseau, his yacht or anything else about the race? If so, please give me a call.
