Opening Day On The Bay
By Esther Lerner-Carrico
Opening Day on the Bay is underway for April 30, 2000, and we have another glorious weekend planned for our membership at the club. As always Charlie White has organized this event with great finesse. The fun begins with club boat decorating on Saturday, April 29, 2000 complete with contest and prizes galore lead by Richard Solomon and Doug Owen. Karen Gilbert and Larry Burnworth and Leigh and Robert Guinn will be on hand to help with the boat decorating contest. Show your club pride and show off your beautiful boats with your enthusiastic participation. Look for club flyers with more details and get your bribes ready for the judges, Collette Clowes, Dan Carrico and Nancy Giachino.

Dan Carrico is calling upon members to help on his committee to decorate the club premises for opening day. We need volunteer painters and tinkers to avert the eye from our unsightly construction site. Please sign up on the sheet that is on the bulletin board.
The morning will start with our own Rosalind Colver singing the Star Spangled Banner and the blessings by the clergy. This year we will have a Protestant minister, a Jewish cantor and a Catholic priest giving the pleasure craft in the Bay their blessings. The Coast Guard color guard will be on hand and a bugler will resound the significance of the festivities. The Corinthian Women will be on hand to provide hospitality to our attendees at the breakfast. Sandra Solomon has been in charge of decorating and flowers and as usual the club will shine. The festivities will continue. Joe Holko is in charge of the childrens entertainment and has procured a ladybug trampoline which is quite cute and entertaining so bring the kids. Andrea Holko arranged for great bands for Sunday and has made sure that traditional fare will sate your appetites the entire day be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Please be reminded that the hoist will close at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and will remain closed all day Sunday so please plan accordingly. The main guest dock and A and B fairway will be reserved for cruise-ins for members only for those who wish to stay for the weekend. Reserve early due to limited space. A club flyer will be sent to the membership. Parking will be scarce so come early if you want to park in the lot.

As a special treat Diana Fischer has arranged for the band cadets of Kri Dewaruci of Jakarta will be on hand to provide entertainment during the course of the day. Their tall ship will be anchored off of our harbor and should be quite impressive.
Ed Fischer will provide creative flyers and name tags and he also will prepare the program brochures with the assistance of Harry Blake. Our thanks go out to Milt Stannard who has helped obtain the coast guard boat and all others who have contributed their time and effort to make this yet another memorable club event. |
