Spring has sprung at the Corinthian Yacht Club. The Club was bustling with several spring regattas under the leadership of Rear Commodore Dan Carrico. The Horsfall/Vincent Club Regatta was well attended, as was our Scan-Am Regatta, chaired by Karin Dilou. The first Angel Island Cup Regatta, chaired by Mark Thompson and organized by Kay Rudiger, had over forty-five entries. Though the wind didnt cooperate the sun was out and spirits were high, and, as always, spring brings the first Friday night races. They are under way and many new faces will be on the race deck this year. Mary Ellen and Gunnar Wetlesen, Karen Gilbert, and Leigh and Robert Quinn, just to name a few.
Thanks to our Membership Chairman Joe Holko and his committee we have many new members to welcome to our Club. Our membership is growing. Welcome to all of you. This spring brings an opportunity to join in and enjoy your new Club and meet your fellow Corinthians. The Corinthian Women have planned a fabulous Easter party with egg hunt, Easter Bunny, and all. Plan on bringing your families to this wonderful day.
Spring also means plans are well under way for this years Opening Day on the Bay. Chairman Charlie White and his some 22 committee members have a weekend full of events planned for members of all ages. At our Sunday breakfast this year the Corinthian Yacht Club will be honoring four members who have reached Life Member status. Congratulations to Carl Lange, Edward Martinelli, Peter Martin, and Joe Koopman . This years Blessing of the Pleasure Craft will be lead by Reverend Jim Current, Father Michael Barber, and Cantor David Margules aboard the U.S.C.G.C. Hawksbill. Make your reservations early to be able to participate in all of the rich traditions of this very special weekend.
Vice Commodore John Bogue has been working closely with the Corinthian Catering Company to introduce Friday lunches. We already know Chef Ian provides the best Racers Grill on Friday nights anywhere, and the Sunday Brunches cant be beat. Now well have the opportunity to bring family, friends, and business acquaintances to lunch on Friday afternoons. This will start sometime in May, so watch for more information.
Our Clubhouse has had lots of attention lately. Port Captain Andre Klein is overseeing the hillside stabilization project which looks like its making headway. Its nice to see that the hillside doesnt need the building to hold it up any more. The alcove is back in operation, and the new dumbwaiter is in full operation. Thank you to CCI for making this tenant improvement, which certainly enhances the operation of our meal service upstairs. Our Harbor also continues to improve. The Harbor Reconstruction Committee chaired by Eric Ahrens has the construction of an additional slip on A line underway.
As we welcome new members sometimes we have to say good-bye. Id like to take this opportunity to extend our prayers to the families of two members of our Corinthian Yacht Club family Richard Coffin and Russ Schneider who recently passed on. Bless you.
