The Corinthian Women

By Esther Lerner Carrico

The Corinthian Women christened the long awaited shore boat, Mermaid, on May 18, 2000. Another dedication will take place on Opening Day, April 30, 2000, so that our entire membership can participate in this exciting event. The Corinthian Women, through their efforts in managing the club store, were able to gift the much needed shore boat to the club in1999.

Our special thanks to last year's officers for their foresight and Theresa Prescott, store buyer, Karen Gilbert, sales force manager and Marj Bundschu, our treasurer managing the store bookkeeping. Also Matthew Gorton was instrumental in ordering the boat and seeing it through final shipment. Mermaid has an interesting story as do all famous vessels. She was purchased last August and shipped by truck in October when she was struck by a logging truck to her demise. Thereafter the second Mermaid was assembled and finally reached the Club in one piece. A proper champagne christening was followed by the appropriate pomp and circumstance for our beautiful Mermaid. Commodore Diana Fischer and Rear Commodore Dan Carrico gave the boat a proper send off.

Last year’s president, Mary Anne Bogue and this year’s president of The Corinthian Women, Beverly Dunne, burst with pride as we all reaped the benefits of the group’s hard work. We drank champagne, toasted the boat and imagined all the future fun and safety the boat will provide our members. Hans and the hardworking members of future race committees deserve a great shore boat. For the grand finale, The Corinthian Women toured the Bay on Mermaid with Matthew Gorton at the helm in culmination of a job well done.

The store just gets better and better thanks to great buying decisions. Our new Spring stock has arrived and will be available for sale on some Friday nights when race season begins on April 7, during various events and races and Opening Day, April 30. Marcia Peck’s terrific calendar for 2001 is now in production and will be available in May, 2000 for those of you who are super organized in planning Christmas gifts. We have silk scarves and beautifully embroidered sweaters and sweatshirts that also make great gifts.

Please be reminded of our upcoming events. Our Easter Party is on Sunday, April 23, 2000. Make your reservations early for this event which is always a sell out. The Corinthian Women’s sailing seminars are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 6 & 7, 2000 and May 20 & 21, 2000. Again, this a very popular event so be sure to sign up early.
