Commodore's Column

By Diana Fischer

Of the 410 eligible voting members of the Corinthian Yacht Club, 317 of you returned your ballot for the recent resolution to allow an exchange of property here at the Club. Great job!! The 313 "yes" votes means the measure passed by an overwhelming majority. The four other votes received were "spoiled ballots", which means they arrived with no signature or the ballot wasn't marked with a yes or no designation. There were zero "no" votes received although we do have to remember that all ballots not received must be considered "no" votes under our current by-law structure. Thanks to each and every member who voted.

The next event that requires your active involvement with decision-making issues is at the Annual Meeting, which will be held on Friday, November 10th.

As always a lot of things are happening around the Club.

The new Guest Dock is almost complete and it sure looks great. The stainless steel staircase is near completion, and the new liquor storage is in full operation in the upstairs bar area. The steel framework for the chair lift is currently poised and ready to be completed as soon as the necessary funds are secured.

At the recent Board of Directors meeting a review of items to appear on the agenda of the Annual Meeting were discussed. All items must be finalized by the September Board Meeting so that the packet can be mailed to our membership in October. It was decided to separate the amendment proposal to increase our initiation fees, from any motion for an assessment for funds to be added to our Reconstruction Fund. The Board also received a suggestion for a fund raising party to include auction items. This might be considered for a gala event to raise funds for designated projects around the Club.

The Corinthian Yacht Club sure has activities for everyone. If you're not sailing on Friday Nights, cruising around the Bay-perhaps to Vallejo, maybe you were at the Clambake dancing up a storm. All great successes.

And then there's always something new happening. This last month was the First Annual CYC Fishing Derby. Talk about fun! Prize money always makes for interesting competition. Chef Ian did a great job serving up the salmon Wally Quinn and Herb Rodricks caught the Wednesday before the Derby. This new event is one to watch for on next year's calendar.

Speaking of dates to mark on the calendar, this year's Commodore's Picnic is on Labor Day, Monday, September 4th. Fun and games for all ages and dancing till eight.

The fall season begins with this year's Commodore's Ball on Saturday, September 23rd. In keeping with the millennium theme, this year's ball features "The Corinthian Yacht Club Through The Ages". Our Club has now passed through two centuries. Dress in the formal attire of your favorite period, perhaps Victorian, Roaring Twenties, the Swing Era, or even dare to be modern. Make reservations and I'll see you at the Ball !!
