Preserving Corinthian's Historical Artifacts
By Dick Slottow
A new historical committee has recently been formed, charged with the responsibility of preserving pictures and other artifacts located in various areas around the Club. Members of the committee are Dick Slottow, John Colver and Doug and Andrea Salter Owen.
It is interesting to note that it costs a great deal more to preserve historical stuff than it did to create it. Therefore, one of the major objectives of the committee is to raise funds to help preserve for the future what we enjoy today. To make the fund raising more palatable, a Corinthian Yacht Club fund has been established with the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society, a non-profit corporation that can receive gifts, which may then be deducted from the donor's income tax. Gifts restricted to this fund may only be used for Corinthian historical purposes.
Funds will be used to replace old photographs with new prints, thus allowing us to properly store originals in atmospheric protected containers yet continue to enjoy the illustrations throughout the building. An update for the history, which was published in 1986, is also planned provided sufficient funds become available and volunteer historians, writers, computer nerds, researchers, and others volunteer to assist in the project.
Gifts may be made directly to the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society at P.O. Box 134, Tiburon, CA 94920. If you wish to have an extra deduction or two available on your 2000 income tax, send something in before December 31.
