Hailing all Corinthians! It's time to prepare for the 2001 Race Season. Yes, that time is upon us again. We kick things off with the Mid-Winter Regatta in January and have ongoing racing through October. As you can see from the Race Schedule that follows, we have lots of races to run and lots of good times to enjoy. At present I am putting together a great bunch of Corinthians to staff the Race Committee and need all the volunteers I can get.

My initial goal is to recruit a great group of people and then hold some workshops to teach everyone how to run a race. Jim Snow has graciously volunteered to lead these workshops and Commodore John Bogue will help out as well. Tentative dates will be Sunday, December 17 and January 14, from 2 to 5 pm. We will have another session just before the Friday Night Regattas start as well. These will be "hands on" sessions where you will be trained in each step of running a race from beginning to end. Special volunteers are needed to be trained in the operation of our new computer race program. For those of you thinking about volunteering, don't be scared away by the number of races. I have received commitments from some of our more experienced members to take charge of a set number of races. I would ask each one of you to look over the Race Schedule and commit for the dates that work for you. There will be some special perks for those of you willing to sign on for 9 or more races. So, don't be shy. Even if you've never raced or helped out before, this is a great opportunity to learn about racing and become involved in some of the most exciting activities at the club. If you 're interested or just want to get more information, please call, e-mail or leave a message at the club.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce two additions to my staff. Fred Conta has agreed to serve as our new Cruise Committee Chair. Fred is in the process of designing an itinerary of destinations for the coming year. If you have any special requests, please be sure to get them in now. John Bundschuh has agreed to serve as the Race Committee Chair.
