Commodore’s Column

By John Bogue

Autumn has arrived and it’s time to reflect on many end-of-summer activities that have occurred at the Club.

On September 7, following the last Friday Night race of the season, Rear Commodore Ron Roberts presented trophies to the year 2001 overall winners. Congratulations to Ron, Race Chairman John Bundschuh and the many volunteers who made this season so successful. Kudos to D.G. Tilton for coming to the club faithfully on Friday nights to handle the starting sequence signals.

Bravo to Sandra and Richard Solomon for serving as cruise leaders for the August cruise weekend to Coyote Point and to Agneta and Bjorn Ervell for organizing the September cruise to South Beach.

Special recognition goes to Torild Roberts for making the arrangements for the Commodore’s Labor Day Luau which included dinghy races organized by Vice Commodore Dan Carrico, a face painter, a treasure hunt for the children led by the Prescotts, and a pig roasting on a spit, thanks to our Chef Ian. Bill Canada and his band Night Train did a fine job entertaining us with great music throughout the festivities. Thanks to the many volunteers who helped make this event so spectacular. These outdoor affairs are always fun and do require extra work from both the CYC and CCI staff and their efforts are very much appreciated.

Our jazz combo outdid themselves with a fantastic performance during “Jazz by the C”. Judy Hall played the piano, Jim and Else Liv Skaar’s son Espen on bass, along with Harry Blake on sax and Bill Canada on drums. What a wonderful evening!

I am pleased to report that we have added two employees to our CYC staff. Richard Lopez has been hired to help out in the harbor and assist with various maintenance projects around the clubhouse. Patrick C. Satterfield has been employed as our new Bar Manager. If you haven’t already done so, please introduce yourself to these gentlemen the next time you have an opportunity.

At the September board meeting, the Board of Directors named Charlie White, Herb Rodricks and Richard Solomon to the Harbor Committee to replace committee members whose terms have expired.

The Nominating Committee has selected a slate of Flag Officers and Directors for the year 2002 to be voted on at the Annual meeting on November 9. The list is comprised of the following: Dan Carrico, Commodore; Ron Roberts, Vice Commodore; Cliff Donoho, Rear Commodore; Andre Klein, Port Captain; Marj Bundschuh, Director; John Dodge, Director and Bruce Powell, Director. Directors Andrea Owen, John Warren and Richard Solomon will serve the 2nd year of their elected two-year term.

I hope you are enjoying the fall season. Mary Anne and I are looking forward to seeing you and your guests at the Commodores’ Ball—Monte Carlo Night on Saturday, October 27!
