Race News
By Ron Roberts
The Friday Night Regatta has concluded and the trophies have been handed out. It has been a wonderful season. A good time was had by all involved.
The Drakes Bay Races were held on Sept. 22 & 23. With the help of our regular race committee crew and the special help of Eric Artman and Commodore Bogue in Cozy Lee, the races were run smoothly and a good time was had by all. There were, however, a few hectic moments at the start with 32 boats starting into dense fog, dodging outbound freighters. Rumor has it that some of the boats were even turned around! Fortunately, no accidents occurred, but we were all reminded about the perils of the bay.
The last race of the year is almost upon us. The E. Ross Wood Memorial Regatta is on October 20. The skippers meeting is at 1100 and the first gun is at 1200. So, spread the word and get prepared to race or assist with the race committee. In addition, there will be a new members reception that afternoon. So, plan on joining the fun after the race.
I am currently in the process of updating the E. Ross Wood Trophy and I am missing a number of the previous years results. I have incomplete information for the Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker Division Winners for 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 & 2000. If you know who these individuals are, please let me know.
I would like to invite those of your who are interested in becoming part of the race committee to come by for a brief training session before the E. Ross Wood Memorial Regatta. We will start the training at 0930. Afterwards, we will run the race.
