The Corinthian Women
by Esther Lerner Carrico
The Corinthian Women continue in their efforts to enhance our club membership experience and extend our goodwill to the community. The spirit of camaraderie and friendship in our club as a whole has been a comfort in this time of uncertainty and devastation.
The nomination of Officers for 2002 was approved at our October meeting as follows: Theresa Prescott, President; Karen Gilbert, Vice President; Marie Jorajuria, Treasurer, and; Sharon Barr, Secretary. Congratulations. It will be another superb year for The Corinthian Women.
The Board members are dedicated and hard working and when we announce our club gift for 2001 at the annual meeting the results of our efforts will be realized. As you are aware the club gift is solely derived from the projects organized by The Corinthian Women, the major one being the operation of the club store. We have, however, generated funds from the Womens Sailing Seminar and the CPR classes, all which go back to the membership by way of the club gift. We will announce the club gift at the upcoming Annual Meeting.
Presentations were made at our September meeting depicting areas of need in the club. Dick Slottow requested funds to reframe and preserve many of our old photographs. This project would involve the Landmark Society Archives. Commodore John Bogue and Tony Cooney from the facilities committee on behalf of Port Captain, Andre Klein, made a presentation complete with drawings for renovation of the board room/library/wait station. A portion of the renovation is required to be in compliance with wait station regulations and work must commence very soon albeit in stages. Another suggestion was prompted by member requests for an espresso machine and we thought this might fall into the wait station budget. Perque no? Our favorite, of course was the much needed cabinet for storage of store items. Any of you who have ventured into the store closet/Hobbit hole, exiting with a knot on your head, would agree. The building of the cabinet is underway, thanks to Andre Klein and Corinthian Board members who have supported the undertaking. Stay tuned for the outcome to be announced at the Annual Meeting.
The Club store is doing well thanks to the efforts of Theresa Prescott, Marie Jorajuria, Sharon Barr, Paula Hannson and many of our Board members and volunteers. Thank you for being part of our success. The store will be open for the New Members Reception on October 20, 2001, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. We are considering donations toward the Red Cross efforts either of stock or a percentage of proceeds.
For Christmas shoppers, we will be open December 7th and 14th, 2001 from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Theresa is looking into some cool gift items for members. We still are hopeful that there will be online shopping in time for Christmas shopping. Check the web page under Corinthian Women. The Tinsley Island Fever caps went over in a big way thanks to Theresas eye for color and design.
Please do not forget the work in progress known as Corinthian Cruise Cuisine, the Corinthian Women cookbook. We anticipate it will be published next year. Sharon Barr is awaiting your e-mail of sumptuous fare at marshbarr@yahoo.com. Dont let her down. Shes ready to put it together and we all know our club always has the best food at the cruises and egg nog parties.
It is hard to fathom that this year will come to an end soon. We are preparing for the Club Christmas decorations headed up by Paula Hannson and help is appreciated. Check our bulletin board for details and sign up. The Egg Nog Party will be hosted by The Corinthian Women as will The Santa Party. Lynne Richardson and Brenda Buckerfield, the dynamic duo that produced the Easter Party, will be presenting you The Santas Party in full regalia. It will be a time for all to be thankful for the quality lives we live.
