Entertainment
by Esther Lerner-Carrico
Our CYC entertainment year started with a lovely Valentines Day celebration honoring love and romance, with a special tribute to Staff Commodore Milt Stannard and Mignon his lovely wife of 66 years. The event drew 87 lovers of all ages and we saw a lot of holding hands, smiles and dancing. The evening was very romantic in the dining room with candles glowing from candelabras hanging from the ceiling. The Corinthian Catering Company did a great job of providing delicious cuisine for our members and lovely pink and red table settings. Thank you to Laurel Baudendistel for the festive decorations and red roses for each sweetheart escorted by a thoughtful man. The music provided by Rob Robinson was romantic and inspired us to dance the night away. Prizes were awarded for those that were married or engaged on Valentines Day, those that were married the longest besides the Stannards. We had winners married for 56 years. Dick and Jean Slottow just missed getting the prize as they were only married 50 years! No one stepped up to get the prize for being married to the same person twice. (A trick question if there ever was.) The peals of laughter and smiling faces confirmed that this was another memorable night at the Corinthian Yacht Club.
On Saturday, February 23, 2002, we had our first Jazz by the C performed by our own Bill Canada, Harry Blake and friends. They have never sounded better. It was a lively night with 67 attending. The dinner, dance and show were well received and many folks asked that this be a regular event. Where else in Marin County can you have it all so close to home and at such a reasonable price (just the cost of your meal - the entertainment is provided to our membership free of charge). We will try to provide such entertainment as often as possible given all the other events regularly booked at our fine facility. The next Jazz by the C is set for Saturday March 30, 2002 in the dining room. Be sure to reserve early, as this event will be a sellout once word gets out. Thank you Bill, Harry and Friends for bringing your talent to the club. They have agreed to perform for you throughout the year for a total of nine Saturdays. We will be booking other types of music on Saturdays so look for notices in the future.
All singers, comedians, musicians listen up! Jackie Taylor has agreed to produce another performance of the beloved Cabaret by the Bay on November 2, 2002 with the help of Paula Hansson, Barbara Klein and Randy Saber, co-producers. Look for notices for auditions coming up. In the meantime start honing in on your talent. We will need all we can get to delight our membership with the hilarity and surprise talent here at our club. We will also have Francaise by the Bay for our Bastille Day party on July 13, 2002. Anyone who can sing in French or play an accordion should look for audition notices in the spring. Any Can-Can dancers are welcome as well.
The following is the Entertainment Calendar for 2002 so that you can plan to attend the events that tickle your fancy. We hope to please our membership with optimum entertainment. As always the general membership is welcome to help with any of the events. Let me know by e-mail at estherlerner@earthlink.net if you are interested.
