CYC Burgee Flies over SPV Royal Clipper
by Staff Commodore John Bogue
If you are a sailor at heart and you still like the excitement of the sport, we would highly recommend a vacation on the ROYAL CLIPPER in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean.
The ROYAL CLIPPER was commissioned in 2000 and is the largest true sailing ship in the world: she is 439 feet long, with 5 masts and 42 sails. The only time the engines were used was in maneuvering alongside or departing a pier. We always started each sail with all 42 sails filled. The captain runs an open bridge policy, there are opportunities to climb the rigging, and you can participate in the sailing of the ship or just relax and soak up the sun and ambiance. It was a luxury sailing vacation.
Hans Roeben and Sally Huse voyaged for two weeks during January in the Caribbean aboard the ROYAL CLIPPER and Doug and Andrea Owen joined them for the second week, cruising the Grenadine Islands.
For more information than you ever wanted as well as pictures, ask the Roebens or the Owens!
