Vice Commodore’s Column

by Ron Roberts

I am pleased to announce that we will be offering a number of new dining events at the club this year. To begin with, we will have a series of Saturday Night Dinner Dances throughout the year with live music and dancing (in the space for the salad bar). I have arranged with Chef Ian to offer special salads on the menu in place of the salad bar, and we will continue to offer soup and salad as an option on the menu. The first Dinner Dance was held on in February and the next will be Saturday, March 30. So, get out your dancing shoes and come down to the club for a good night out.

I am saddened to report that there are a few members who use their gate key to let non-members use the club parking lot. This is not allowed. I think that everyone knows that the parking lot is for members only. We will be monitoring members’ use of the gate through our computer. Members who abuse their parking privileges will be warned on their first offense. If it happens again, they will receive a suspension of their parking privileges. Please, help us control the use of our parking lot. This is not a place where we can let our friends park while we go to dinner or to a movie.

We have cancelled our contract with the company who was providing the security guard for the parking lot and in the future we will handle this ourselves with Hans Anderson, who will be working as our security guard. Other staff may be used if Hans is not available. Please follow all their directions, as they are working under the authority of the Board of Directors. Please know that they are charged with enforcing the club rules. Members who disregard their directions or in any way harass them will be subject to disciplinary action.

New car decals will be mailed to members in the near future to identify their vehicles for the parking lot. These decals will have numbers on them, but they will no longer correspond to the members’ club number. This may be a bit confusing at first, but it will make it less likely that someone may try to use an inappropriate number at the club.
