PICYA News

by Staff Commodore John Bogue

The 2002 Officers and Directors of the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association (PICYA) were installed at the 10th Annual Installation Ball, which took place at the Corinthian Yacht Club on January 26. Commodore and Mrs. Carrico and Mary Anne and I were in attendance. Following the business meeting all attendees enjoyed dining and dancing to music by the Nob Hill Sounds.

At the first delegates’ meeting held in February at the Discovery Bay Yacht Club, PICYA Commodore Richard Clark enthusiastically indicated his desire to see lots of patriotic red, white and blue out on the Bay on Opening Day to tie in with this year’s decorating theme “From Sea to Shining Sea.”

As the busy yachting season gets under way, it is the perfect time to give some thought to safety on the water. After the devastating events of September 11, we are all aware that security measures have tightened up in many areas including water safety. I strongly encourage all of you to visit www.picya.org, click on Safety and take a look at PICYA Safety Committee Chair Randy Trudeau’s published information including USCG’s new guidelines for the Bay and Delta. There will be a copy of this material posted on the Club’s bulletin board for those who might not have access to the website.

The following PICYA regattas are scheduled for 2002: Big Lipton, Little Lipton and Admiral Trophy Series, July 13 and 14; Chispa Series and Youth Regatta, August 10. For more information please go to the PICYA website and visit Regatta News. Hard copy will be posted at CYC on the bulletin board. Regatta Chair Daphne Owen, Andreas Cove, YC, Tel. 916.776.1836, Email daphne@teal.net and Public Service and Wheelchair Regatta Committee Chair Margot Brown, Encinal YC, Tel. 510.523.2098, Email mjbjhb@aol.com will be happy to answer questions you may have regarding the upcoming regattas. To all Corinthian skippers! – Now is the time to talk with your sailing companions, assemble a crew, practice and look forward to experiencing some exciting and challenging competition on the Bay.

Commodore Carrico has asked and it will be my pleasure to serve as CYC’s 2002 delegate to PICYA meetings and will regularly report back to membership on important PICYA and RBOC (Recreational Boat Owners of California) doings.
