News From the Vice Commodore

by Cliff Donoho

Have you been to the Club for dinner recently? If not, give it a try and I think you will find it an enjoyable and satisfying experience. As you know, we just did a survey to gather membership opinions of the Club dining experience, and to help us find ways to encourage more member participation. We received 125 responses, which is way beyond the normal response rate for surveys. The results were gratifying and the ratings were very good. More than half of those responding eat in the dining room more than ten times a year. Most prefer the existing salad bar rather than served soup and salad. On the 1 to 5 rating scale, only one item received an average rating of less than four (4), and that was food consistency.

The results of the survey have been provided to the catering company, and noticeable improvements have already taken place. Service is better, and heart healthy and vegetarian entries have been added to the menu. The feedback from the dining evaluation cards, that are available on request, substantiates these improvements. The House Committee and Corinthian Catering Company are continuing to work together with a focus on the things that make dining at the Club a happy, satisfying and memorable experience.

You can now order a pot of French Press coffee, made with high quality freshly ground coffee. Try it. Friday lunches are now being served, and you will find more variety in the Menu.

The newly renovated Board Room/Library, thanks to the financial support of the Corinthian Women, will be finished by the time you read this. With all new furniture, wall coverings, etc. it should be an elegant and comfortable room for meetings. Our Club manager, Ingo Schreiber, will have a new office as part of the project, so he will no longer have to work from a room the size of a closet.

House Rule 16, regarding the use of the Memorial Library, will be amended to cover use of the Board Room/Library. The room will be available for suitable member use, such as Board of Directors and Committee meetings, but not for employee use as in the past.

You may have noticed the new wide screen plasma screen TV in the member bar. This also was acquired for the Club by the Corinthian Women. It definitely improves the quality of viewing such things as sporting events.

Shopping at the Club store, and participation in TCW sponsored events, will continue to provide funds that TCW will use to provide enhancements and benefits for the Club such as these.

Want to personally do something for yourself and the Club? Bring in a new member. If you are unsure of the process, Membership Chairs Anita Dillon, Doug Owen, or any member of the Membership Committee can give you all the details.
