Happy New Year to one and all! It is going to be another year filled with fun events at our club!

Our night in 'Casablanca' was soo much fun! Kazzy the camel was such a good girl; wasn't she adorable!? The Silver Moon Big Band Orchestra sounded great and the dance floor was packed. Bravo to all of you guys (you know who you are) who went belly dancing with Sabiba, our professional belly dancer. Shahla Morid and her brother jumped in and did a dance for us, thank you Shahla! Congratulations to the winners for best costumes: Mary Ellen Wetlesen, Dale Weibel, Graciela Placak and Robbie Cook. Thank you, Kris Kuettel, for judging the costumes. Congratulations to the winners at the casino. I want to say a special thank you to everyone who helped for the New Year's Eve event: Shahla Morid for supplying all the rugs and fabrics, Sharon & John Warren, Eileen Kallaway, and Sharon Barr for assembling the centerpieces and decorating the ballroom, Dale Weibel for adding to the market stand and helping Bruce with decorations. Doug Owen & Marcia Peck were the photographers for the event. Thank you to Gunnar Wetlesen for loaning a VCR & setting up the movie Casablanca in the bar downstairs. Robbie Cook, Mark Leonard, Bill Kramer and Peter Mason were wonderful in the skit, and thank you to the men's chorus for singing La Marseillaise. A huge thank you to my dear husband Commodore Bruce Powell who promoted the event and designed the invitation. He also helped me a great deal with the decorations. Without forgetting every club employee, I thank you all for making our club a fun place to be on New Year's Eve. Stay tuned for more fun events coming up!

Mark your calendar for Super Bowl Sunday Chili Cook-off on Sunday, February 6. It will be just after Cooks & Waiters. Watch for details in the mail. It will be our second annual Chili Cookoff. Prizes will be awarded for the best chili. Last year, it was a huge success, the bar was packed and one could enjoy several wonderful chilis cooked by members. You can sign up on the bulletin board if you want to be one of the 10 cooks.

Then we go on with Valentine's Dinner on February 12th. We will enjoy The Bill Canada Jazz Experience for a romantic evening. Watch for details on the flyer coming soon.

In March, come meet your friends at the club and feast on delicious crab at the Crab

Feed on March 6. On March 12, Bill Canada's band will again play for our pleasure. Another event in March will be St. Patrick's Day. Come enjoy a special menu on Thursday the 17, and wear your favorite green while appreciating a drink special!

On March 27 bring your children to the Easter Brunch, an event that is always well attended. Have your children's picture taken with the Easter Bunny, and there will be the traditional egg hunt. I will tell you about more fun events in future issues of the TELLTALE.
