The Corinthian Women
by Alix Fagersten
This year's Ladies Skippered Regatta was another huge success! Eight boats competed in 20 to 30 knot winds and I'm happy to report that everyone made it back safely in time for a wonderful champagne reception on the CYC deck. Our first place finisher was Another Wild Blonde (surprised?) skippered by Marcia Peck. Second place was Peer Gynt skippered by Celeste Mirassou. Smogen III, skippered by Angie Lackey, placed third. Thanks to all the sailors and everyone who volunteered their boats and contributed to this effort to get the ladies out on the water. A very special thank you to Jane Elkins for organizing this wonderful event and to the race committee - Bev Dunn, John Bogue and Mary Anne Bogue - for keeping the gun firing. Getting women involved with our club and sailing is a priority and the Ladies Skippered Regatta was a perfect complement to Women' s Sailing Seminar Reunion Regatta held earlier this summer and also organized by Jane Elkins.
The Corinthian Women recently held a fun "getting to know you lunch" for old and new members in the club dining room. Eight women attended, amongst us, two new members - Christina Zuch and Kerstin Hanson...Welcome! Thank you to Teresa Prescott and Karen Burnworth for putting this afternoon together.
The Corinthian Women were out on the bay again! On Friday September 27th, Jeanne and Jennifer Lacy took a group of the Corinthian Women out on their boat and sailed to the Ramp where they enjoyed a fun lunch and great day in the sun. Thank you to both Jeanne and Jennifer. Remember, the Corinthian Women are always looking for opportunities to get out on the water, so please let us know if you would like to sponsor this fun group of ladies on your boat.
Some final reminders. Watch for new fall fashions arriving soon at the Club Store. Also, all Corinthian women are encouraged and invited to attend the Corinthian Women Meetings. We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:45 PM and meetings are most often held in the club library. TCW is a great organization and a wonderful way to meet new friends, have a lot of fun, and get involved in the club!
