The Vice Commodore's Column

By Ron Roberts

I am pleased to announce that we have added some new draft beers at the club. For those sturdier beer drinkers, we have Bass Ale. This is a full bodied ale with a dark amber color and rich hops taste. We have also added a local micro-brewery, Gordon Biersch. We wanted another ale to replace the somewhat ambiguous Corinthian Ale that never really caught on. Anyway, we wanted to let our beer drinkers know that we were paying attention to the beer menu, too. Sorry Hans, the Spaten didn't make the cut.

I'm sorry to bore you with more parking lot woes, but the saga continues. For some reason I can't figure out, some Corinthians can't seem to learn that only club members and their spouses may use the parking lot. Other extended family members are not allowed to use a member's parking lot key for themselves when not with a member. One exception, individuals working on boats may be permitted to park in the parking lot during club business hours. A member must first call the club to make arrangements and then the tradesperson will need to check in and out with the office. Parking passes are not issued, and all such activities need to be monitored for security reasons

Finally, if you really want something that can blow the wind through your hair, how about a sailing trip from Rome to Barcelona? I am planning a CYC Cruise on one of the premier sailing vessels in the world, The Wind Surf of the Wind Star Cruise Line. The week's trip starts June 15 in Rome and goes to Portoferraio, Portofino, Monte Carlo, Nice, Marseille, Porto Vendres, and Barcelona. The Wind Surf is a 5 masted 376 feet long vessel with an elevator, spa and gym. There is also a pre-week cruise from Malta to Sicily to Rome along the Amalfi Coast at a 10% discount for all those going for two weeks ( John Warren said he took this trip on this boat and it was the best cruise he has ever been on). One week rates start at $2,973 with a $500 per person discount for reservations before Oct. 15 and a $250 per person discount before Feb. 20. Call Travel Travel for more information at 381-4650 x-908 or look them up at www.windstarcruises.com.
