Memorial Day Week-end Cruise

Part I—South Beach Harbor

by Bjorn and Agneta Ervel

The first part of the weekend cruise went to South Beach in San Francisco. 15 CYC boats and 40 members and friends participated in what turned out to be a weekend in the traditional CYC spirit.

The trip over from Tiburon on Saturday was brisk with wind gusts up to 25 knots. I understand Richard and Sandra Solomon's Liberty was up to 6 knots at times.

After some rest, we all met up on the deck of South Beach Yacht harbor to enjoy CYC camaraderie and hors d'oeuvres. We had reserved Pier 40 Harbor Grill for the evening and we were served a nice dinner. Very soon and in a true CYC spirit, we were all dancing both on and off the floor to the CDs we brought. The evening ended with a party on Harry and Sondra Blake's Limelight. This gave Harry a chance to test his new sound system with 6 different versions of "Ride Sally Ride".

Also in a true CYC spirit Chris Canada met and helped berthing the boats as they arrived at the yacht harbor. This is normally the duty of the cruise organizer but as we had a mechanical problem and arrived late we are grateful to Chris for covering for us.

Part II—San Leandro Yacht Club

by Sarah Huse

What an act to follow! Twenty people survived the first day of the cruise and made it over to Spinnaker Yacht Club in San Leandro. For those who had never been there before I think they were pleasantly surprised at what a nice destination it was.

Eric and Elaine Artman as well as John and Mary Anne Bogue arrived on Saturday so they could do some shopping. They were not in sight when the rest of us arrived on Sunday; they were doing major shopping at the outlet stores. For future reference, there is a free shuttle that goes from the Marina Inn over to the mall.

We had cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at the Spinnaker Yacht Club. Tiburon Yacht Club joined us near the end of the cocktail party. What a great place to get $2 martinis or any drink for $2! We were all cheap dates that night, at least until dinner time at Horatio's. For dinner we sat at three tables; the shoppers (Artmans and Bogues) at one table, Cruise leader Roebens with Associate members, Buzz and Suzanne Feldmann visiting from Phoenix, Fred and Sonja Conta and Nina and Horace Wulff completing a second table. I think the Wulff's would agree that cruising is a great way for new members to get to know their fellow Corinthians. Then in the "upper deck brig" were the Canadas, Ervells, and Gistrands. Sandra and Richard Solomon were recovering from the night before and chose to skip dinner and take liberty on Liberty

After dinner we made a visit to the San Leandro Yacht Club where Tiburon Yacht Club had cruised. It was Comedy Central with Ron Hast of Tiburon YC and Bill Canada trading great jokes and stories with the bartender. I never knew Bill spoke French and Italian!

Monday morning many of us left the harbor earlier than we would have liked because we were worried the tide would be too low to return to our berths when we arrived home.

Holiday weekends appear to be a good time to cruise and a double destination seemed to work well.
