Vice Commodore's Notes

by John Bogue

Retirement

Andy Laura has announced his retirement from the CYC family as Bar Manager. He has faithfully served the Corinthian Yacht Club for ten years and we will miss him very much. Andy has volunteered to stay with us for a few months to train his replacement and we will continue to be in his debt for this generosity. His selfless service and dedication to our club are much appreciated. I, along with all Corinthians, wish him good luck in his retirement.

New CYC Employee

John Guzy has been hired to fill our Bar Manager position. John is an experienced hand and was recommended by Andy. We welcome him to CYC.

Use of Cell Phones

On the recommendation of the House Committee, the Board approved a modification of the House Rules that prohibits the use of cell phones within the public area of the clubhouse. It will be greatly appreciated if all members and guests comply with this rule.

Reservations for Club Events

We have had great response to our recent parties. However, a fair number of members are not making advance reservations. As a result we have run out of food at some events and have not been able to accommodate last-minute drop-ins. Our Ian can add only so much water to the soup. Please make reservations early so that you will be in the count.

House Rules Reminder

As a result of some recent episodes, I must remind all members that any problems real or perceived with CYC or CCI employees are to be reported in writing to the Board of Directors per House Rule # 18. The General Manager and the Flag Officers will address these matters. Another item of concern is the growing number of member reports of children playing with Club equipment. Using carts, boat dollies or any other equipment around the club as playthings is a dangerous practice. Parents are reminded to keep a close eye on their children so that our CYC kids don't get hurt.

Chair Nametags

The nametags are in place on the backs of the chairs in the bar and dining room. These chairs were purchased by a number of Club members some time ago. If you want the long sad chronicle of delay in getting the inscriptions attached to the chairs, catch me in the bar some day, buy me a Diet Coke and I will tell you the tale.

Recent House Committee Actions

The Committee has approved a price increase for the dining room and the grill. The last increase was May of 1998 and times have moved on and prices have moved up. The Committee reviewed local restaurant prices as well as the cost of doing business. This is one of the least popular actions the House Committee has to take but time marches on. At the request of the office and CCI staff, the Committee reviewed the reservation policies for tables during member dining and concurred with a policy that limits reservations for the very popular corner (Captain's) table to once a month per member. If no advance reservation is made, the seating will as always be first come, first seated.
