Racing - Farewell to Friday Nights

Our Friday Night Summer Series has just ended, and building on its reputation as the premiere beer-can series in the bay, we had a record sign-up of 128 boats. Among this year's racers were two America's Cup 12-meters, a couple of Farr 40s, and best of all, more Cal 20s than ever before! Look out, John!

From the race deck, the sight of a pesky (in the metaphor of a mosquito to an elephant) Cal 20 attempting to "blanket" a 12-meter was entertaining to say the least. Which is to say that your race committee had tremendous fun with the endless supply of examples such as this. Only at the Corinthian!

Here are the top Corinthians in the Summer Series. In DIV II 120-185 spinnaker, Ron Kell on Abigail Morgan took second and Curtis Press won third. In DIV III 0-185 non-spinnaker, Dave Holscher and Steve Etheridge took first. In DIV IV 186+ spinnaker, in his first year on the course, Michael Campbell on Geronimo did great with a fourth.

In DIV V 186+ non-spinnaker, always a tough fleet, it was John Nooteboom and George Berticevich on Tension II in first place, Jim Skaar on Peer Gynt V in second, Frank and Jim Brooks aboard a resurrected Wet Hen took third, and Allan Widenhofer on Itsazoo was fourth. Congratulations to all racers because, really, everyone who participated won.

September was a very busy time for other race activities as well. We conducted a two-day YRA-ODCA race, a two-day Olson 25 Nationals, a two-day YRA-OYRA to Drake's Bay (thanks to Eric Artman for Cozy Lee and to Vice Commodore John Bogue and Robert Crenshaw for the Drake's Bay end) and to Matt and Abigail Gorton and Esther Lerner, and by the time you will have read this, a three-day Triton Nationals thanks to Staff Commodore and P.R.O., Mark Thompson and crew Bill Brady, Michael Campbell and Cliff Donoho.

Cruising - The Best for Last

Not that any cruise is better than another; they aren't - only different. But no one who has been to Tinsley will deny the enchantment it has and the camaraderie we experience while there. This year, able Cruise Leader Bill Stucky has 48, yes 48 Corinthian boats signed up! Bill's agenda is chock-full of activities (or not, if its your pleasure) to keep us all happy. We will have a full account in the next TELLTALE, and yes many pictures.
