Lyman Lacy, a Life Member of Corinthian Yacht Club passed away at his home on Saturday, May 5. Since 1963, Lyman and his wife Jeanne have been constant sailors of their boat Shearwater and were regular members of the Saturday morning "boat fix it" group that could be found at the Club for so many years . Although Lyman's World War II exploits as a bomber pilot who survived behind enemy lines in Italy was a high point in his life, fellow Corinthians seldom heard him talk about his war experiences. He was shot down in 1944, landing behind enemy lines. He used his Lacy charm on residents of various Italian villages who kept him well hidden for six months and eventually passed him on to allied lines.
Born and raised in San Francisco the family lived in Sacramento for 27 years where he ran the Cannon Brick Company, following which he and Jeanne moved back to the City. Lyman was an avid sailor and served as a member of the Farallon Patrol, a volunteer group that ferried scientists to and from the Farallon Islands. He is survived by his wife Jeanne and three daughters, Dana Amarisa, Susan Speer, Jennifer Lacy, and three grandchildren.
