Commodores Column

Spring is here and a multitude of activities have been happening around the Club!
On March 31 our cruising season got off to a great start with Bill and Chris Canada leading our first cruise of the year to Pt. San Pablo Yacht Club. Approximately seventy cruisers arrived by water and land in time to enjoy hors doeuvres, a prime rib dinner, and musical entertainment performed by a small group including Staff Commodore Bill Canada and Telltale Co-Editor Harry Blake. Thanks to the Canadas and the musicians for a great evening.
Special recognition goes to Rear Commodore Ron Roberts and members of the Race Committee, who ran the well-attended Angel Island Cup Regatta. The Flag Officers, Board of Directors, Committee volunteers and additional Club members welcomed many new members at a reception held on April 14. It was wonderful seeing many new faces and having a chance to rekindle old friendships. Thank you, Membership Committee Chair Anita Dillon, for making the arrangements for this enjoyable get together. Take a look at www.cychistory.org and see several pictures (courtesy of Ed and Diana Fischer) of the action during this event. Thanks, you two!
Many families and friends enjoyed a fine Easter celebration at CYC. Hats off to The Corinthian Women for providing a spectacular party including great decorations, an exciting egg hunt for the children and a very entertaining Easter bunny. (Thanks, Paula!) On April 26 Chef Ian Morrison shared some of his culinary expertise with a small group of Club members. Following the lesson, reports indicated that all who participated enjoyed a great meal with their cooking peers.
Opening Day. What a spectacular event! We could not have ordered better weather and all details of the day were carried out to perfection. All of us at CYC greatly appreciate the hard work of Staff Commodore Diana Fischer and her entire Committee in handling this years Opening Day festivities. I would like to thank the CYC and CCI staff for their tireless support toward providing superb service during this function. Kudos to Vali and Gary Bedey for entering their boat in the powerboat division of the PICYA decorating contest. The boat took 2nd place and we are very proud of this accomplishment. All those who assisted in decorating the boat are to be commended for their much-appreciated efforts. The Corinthian Mens Chorus led by Jackie Taylor was well received as they sang a medley of very appropriate tunes for the day. Great job! A well deserved standing ovation to all of you. (Further details on Opening Day to follow. See VIDEO of the Men's Chorus.)
If you havent been up on the Sun Porch recently, you may wish to go up and take a look at the newly installed carpeting that has been purchased by the Catering Company. Many thanks to CCI for making this acquisition, which will be enjoyed by all Club members and guests. We are now looking toward the end of May as an approximate completion date for the lift to be in operation. As of this writing, the work is on schedule. When arriving at the Club during the week, you may have noticed some trucks and equipment in the CYC parking lot. The Board agreed to allow the construction company, employed by Sams, to occupy a portion of the lot for a predetermined fee while construction takes place at the restaurant.
Please note that the 2001 Club Directories are fresh off the press and available for members to pick up in the Club office.
