The Corinthian Women

by Esther Lerner Carrico

It has been a busy month for The Corinthian Women. The Easter Brunch was a huge success. So many of our members complimented the organizers of this event as to style and organization. The Corinthian Women sponsored Easter Brunch organized by Lynn Richardson and Brenda Buckerfield of the Corinthian Women, was a sell-out with over 200 adults, 40 children in the age 4 & over hunt and 26 under age four (many of which were babies!)

Bunnies were everywhere ensuring a bunniful Easter. The cuteness of the decor was only surpassed by the adorable children dressed to the nines. Our deepest appreciation to Lynn Richardson, Brenda Buckerfield and Barbara Klein for the decorating and to Frances Dugdale for serving as a consultant. And, we were lucky to have the Easter Bunny (alias Paula Hansson) pay us a personal visit at the CYC on Easter Sunday. She was like the Pied Bunny Piper with little starry-eyed Bunny stalkers following her all around the club.

Everyone enjoyed the balloon sculptures and face painting provided by Cory Forman and friends, the magnificent presentation and delicious buffet provided by our own Ian, and the fun milkshakes and jokes from the colorful MadHatter (Adam).

Barbara and Andrea Klein were quite busy taking photographs of the children with the Easter Bunny all through the event and presenting them to the parents in the delightful cards they had prepared!

The treasure hunts went successfully with John Bogue overseeing the ramp at the start of the older children's hunt. One nice change this year was that age 4 and under had the first hunt in the bar with the older children in the second hunt outdoors, which allowed the younger children to collect an even share of the eggs. Thank you to the dedicated Corinthian Women whose efforts produced one of the most memorable Easter celebrations.

The first session of the Women's Sailing Seminar took place on May 5 and 6, 2001. Marie Jorajuria has done a miraculous job taking charge of this massive production. Kay Rudiger has been a big help behind the scenes especially with the instructors and classes. We had over 45 students attending the first class. Thank you Theresa Prescott for carrying out the concept to perfection. Karen Rosenbaum has used her influence in the sailing world to recruit skippers and boats.

This year The Corinthian Women have sponsored two teens through Big Sisters of Marin for scholarships to the first class. Corinthian Women will be assigned as Big Sisters for the day to assist the young ladies. Our deepest appreciation to all who have contributed their time and talent to this very worthwhile event.

The next session will be held on May 19 and 20, 2001 and will include more advanced instruction such as racing and using a spinnaker.

Our store sales were brisk, to say the least, during the Opening Day festivities. We are so fortunate to have the likes of Theresa Prescott and Karen Rosenbaum who are very experienced in retail sales as the buyers for our store merchandise. Thank you to the diligent efforts of Loretta Madden, Sharon Barr, Jay Briggs, Mary Ann Bogue, and all the women who gave their time in the interest of the club selling the great merchandise on Opening Day.  Cooking With Ian 2001 was a sumptuous feast focused on very rich sauces to complement sea bass and tenderloin of beef a la surf and turf. Bearnaise, hollandaise, beurre blanc and various salsas adorned the food. Wine was served for all the student cooks. The ten privileged students (the Canadas, the Buckerfields, the Ames', Marie Jorajuria, Beverly Dunn, Karen Rosenbaum and myself) were pampered by our treasure Chef Ian and his trusty sou chef, Jerry until they were sated. The next "In the Kitchen With Ian" will feature "sauces" and will be on Thursday, May 24 at 6:00; cost = $25 and includes dinner. Look for the sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Remember, first come first served and I mean served.

Our deepest appreciation to Sy and Lynne Richardson who hosted the April 11, 2001, Board meeting aboard the beautiful Five Star of Sausalito. Imagine our delight to be putt putting around the Bay all the while being wined and dined during our meeting. We just have too much fun while we take care of club business. The Richardsons were superb hosts. Sy was kind enough to skipper the vessel safely and professionally.

Work in progress: Sharon Barr has agreed to begin working on The Corinthian Women Cookbook. Any ideas? Let us know. We thought hors d'oeuvres like the fabulous fare our members bring to the eggnog party and the cruises would be a natural. Any underwriters interested in this project contact Sharon at marshbarr@yahoo.com also cooks contact her with your recipes and ideas. Lunch is served in the main dining room on Fridays and The Corinthian Women will always have an open table the last Friday of every month between noon and 2:00 p.m. Remember we welcome all Corinthian Women to attend the Board meetings the second Wednesday of each month in the library at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments served. Your experience at our wonderful club is as rich and fulfilling as you make it—join us!
