Corinthian Yacht Club to Host Easter Seals Day on the Bay Event
Corinthian Yacht Club will be the host for the first Easter Seals Day on the Bay event on Saturday, July 28. The event, which will be held on the deck of the Club from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will give up to 25 disabled youth the opportunity to sail many for the first time.
The event, approved by the Corinthian Board of Directors, is a fundraiser for Easter Seals Childrens Services in Marin County and for the Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS). Corinthian member Herb Meyer (927-8876) is coordinating volunteer boats and crew for the day. He estimates at least eight boats will be needed for a one hour sail starting at 11 a.m.
Dawn Riley, the first woman in the world to captain an Americas Cup team and manage an entire Americas Cup syndicate, is serving as the events honorary chair. She and her America True team will provide sailing instruction to the youthful participants who will also learn to tie knots and engage in other nautical activities on deck after a lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs.
Marin County residents are being asked to support the event by donating $250 to $5,000. Donors contributing at the top level the admiral will get to ride on the bay with Dawn Riley during the days activities. Captain and commander level donors will have their picture taken with Riley who will personally autograph it and also get a souvenir from one of her triumphant races.
This is a first for Easter Seals Northern California, said Jaclyn Reinhardt, president and CEO. We are grateful to the Corinthian Yacht Club for hosting this event which is so special to us and to the disabled families who will participate.
