The Friday Night Regatta is going well. We have 94 boats signed up! Excitement is growing among the competitors and the race committee members.
The Friday Night Regatta is a wonderful opportunity for folks new to sailing and racing to come out and try out their skills. If you haven’t raced before, come down early and ask Frances for one of the “I want to crew” stickers to put on your coat. Then, ask around at the bar and out by the boat lift. Most weeks there is a skipper or two who is short of crew and needs some help.
For those of you who are new to the club and don’t want to race, spending time with the race committee is a really good way to meet new people and get involved. Every week we have a group of members with race experience who are happy to teach the newcomers how things are done. And, I don’t want our more experienced members to be left out. We really need to have a few more experienced members to be involved. Teaching the fine skills of a good race committee member is easier said than done. The help that those of you with more experience can provide is really invaluable.

This month CYC will also start running some of the more interesting and challenging one-design races on the bay. Each year we do this to contribute our support to the local Yacht Racing Association. These races are held off Angel Island and are run from a committee boat instead of the club deck. If you can imagine a dozen or more boats exactly the same all heading for the starting line together, you can really learn about some of the more interesting and subtle aspects of racing. And, spending the afternoon on a boat with a group of Corinthians can be pretty exciting as well. There’s always a good time for all.
June 16 is the CYC/TYC Friendship Regatta at the club. This regatta symbolizes the friendship and camaraderie between our two clubs. This year the race will be run by TYC, although it will be held at our club. It’s time for the Corinthian skippers and crews to get ready!
