Commodores Column

The warm days of summer are here and we are looking forward to the arrival of the Master Mariners on June 23 and 24. Id like to express my appreciation to all of you who will be vacating your slips to provide space for several beautiful yachts from yesteryear, while they visit our harbor. Club members and their guests will be given an opportunity to view these gorgeous boats and meet their owners. There is a dinner party planned for Saturday, June 23 and all Corinthian Yacht Club members are welcome to attend. (Watch for a flyer with details.) On the same weekend, Fred and Sonja Conta will be heading up a group of cruisers to Ballena Bay.
To briefly recap some of our recent activities: Sailing Seminars I and II, conducted by The Corinthian Women, were well attended and TCW are to be highly commended for their efforts toward this very rewarding activity. A sincere thank-you to all volunteers who assisted by teaching, providing boats or helping with administrative duties for this wonderful training experience. It takes a large number of individuals (a Corinthian village) to execute these seminars and one person to coordinate the entire program. This year, that person was Marie Jorajuria. Congratulations, Marie, for doing an excellent job!

On May 13th, many Moms and their families celebrated Mothers Day at CYC by enjoying a delicious brunch prepared by our Chef Ian Morrison, while listening to many musical selections played by Harpist Michelle Sell. Thanks to the Entertainment Committee and especially Marj Bundschuh for chairing this very enjoyable event. There were two back-to-back cruises over the Memorial weekend. Bill and Nancy Giachino led the boats to Vallejo for Saturdays festivities and Gary and Vali Bedey were in charge of the activities in Martinez on the 27th. Several participants reported that the Martini Cruise was a huge success.

After careful review of the continued rapid increases in prices, skyrocketing energy costs, and recognizing that dues have not been increased for five (5) years, the Board, acting upon the recommendation of the Finance Committee, has, reluctantly but unanimously, approved a five per-cent dues increase effective July first.
The Board continues to review the needed repairs and replacements around the club. In addition to mandated repairs, next on the priority list is the repair of the main ramp to the clubhouse.
Please be reminded that a great way to end the workweek with business associates is to plan a meeting and lunch at the Club. Hopefully, many of you will be able to follow through and take advantage of this suggestion.
Enjoy the summer season!
