Father's Day at the Club

by Dick Slottow

An interesting collection of dads, mothers, grandparents, children and others met in the dining room at CYC to celebrate 2001 Fathers Day. The buffet featuring the famous Corinthian omelette, outdid itself this year by offering a truly tasty prime rib. One dad told me he had never had prime rib for breakfast but was now sold and would demand it every Sunday. We wish him luck.

Highlight of the day was the music. Four talented musicians, Judy Hall playing a truly great jazz piano, Espen Skaar, a talented bass accompanist with family in the audience, Bill Canada, a past CYC commodore whose stick and brush touch gets better by the day on drums, and Harry Blake leading the tunes with a quality saxophone, kept the guests entertained for more than three hours.

These musicians are not strangers to the Club as they first performed on Cabaret night last November, an evening few will ever forget. In fact, those who wish to enjoy it again may see the video on the Club web site, www.cychistory.org.

Most of the tunes were familiar, and well selected for the occasion. Harry Blake handled some tricky music stuff including numerous key changes, supported by true professionals. Corinthian is fortunate to have talent such as this available to make our successful events even more successful.

A few who attended were not full fledged, qualified dads, but the generous hosts let them in anyhow.
