The CYC hosted 8th Annual Master Mariner’s Benevolent Association Wooden Boat Show was the most successful Show to date in many respects. Record attendance by the public, Corinthian Members and guests, provided enjoyment for all, including over 140 children.

The event, being the sole annual source of funds for the Master Mariner’s Benevolent Foundation, raised more funds than ever before. In addition to contributing to the square rigged Cape Horner Balclutha, the Bird Boat Polly and all of the tall ships and crews participating in the 1999 Gold Rush Sail, the MMBF has provided scholarship funds to the Arques School of Traditional Boatbuilding, tuition assistance for the Mercy High School girls Semester At Sea Program, and other cadet programs, aboard the tall ship Californian.

Commodore John Bogue, Vice Commodore Dan Carrico, Rear Commodore Ron Roberts, and all members of the CYC Board of Directors deserve special recognition for their cooperation, support and efforts in hosting this year’s Master Mariners Boat show. By virtue of their collective perception that the show benefits all Corinthians, our community and ultimately the beneficiaries of the MMBF Benevolent Fund, the Corinthian was once again the venue for the Show.

After enjoying last years show Corinthian Members Duane and Larkin Kime volunteered to provide the entire publicity effort for this year’s show. Their efforts commenced around the first of the year and are primarily responsible for the record attendance of almost 1300 people. Approximately 150 Corinthians and their guests enjoyed the show.

The show is entirely dependent on many Corinthian volunteers. In addition to other berth holders every Corinthian with a vessel in A, B or C Line in the harbor generously offered their berth for a Master Mariner’s vessel attending the event. We extend our thanks to all CYC members who moved their vessels and especially to members Dan Carrico, Cliff Donoho, Bill Giachino, Matthew Gorton, Joe McKuskie, Hans Roeben, Jim Snow, D.G. Tilton, Randall Von Wedel, and others who, under the guidance of CYC Staff member Hans Anderson, devoted many hours moving member vessels. Our thanks to Andrea Salter Owen and the other Corinthians who volunteered to receive CYC Members at the gate, and who helped out in many other capacities.

We extend our thanks to all CYC and CCC Staff who worked hard preceding the event and throughout the weekend. The devotion to the event by Club Manager Ingo Schreiber, Office Manager Francis Ramage, Bar Manager John Guzy, Chief Ian Morrison in their respective duties was warmly received by all who enjoyed the weekend. The San Francisco Yacht Club supports the event by kindly providing safe harbor for many Corinthian vessels. In this regard SFYC’s Commodore Marshall Appleton, Manager Russ Coggeshall and Harbormaster Jerry Fisher were again indispensable to the success if not the existence of the Show. Although SFYC Members are invited to the show free of charge, most cited their desire to support the event’s commitment to benefit our community through MMBF purpose, and voluntarily paid to attend. The MMBA and the MMBF sincerely thank everyone who contributed to and/or attended the Show.
