Port Captain’s Report

by André Klein

In the past it has been customary for members to abandon such things as old motor oil, transmission fluid, old batteries, etc. next to the garbage enclosure for later disposal by the Club. Changes in the laws governing disposal of these types of waste have made it extremely difficult and costly to engage a private contractor to haul away same. Also, it is illegal for the Club to act as a repository for hazardous materials and, if we are in violation, the Club will be subject to the imposition of fines. As a result, the Club can no longer be responsible for the storage and disposal any hazardous material. Individuals can dispose of oil, paints, fuels, thinners, solvents, etc. at Marin Resource Recovery Center at 565 Jacoby, San Rafael.
