Race News

Friday Night Races are in full swing!

Our first race was something of a challenge, as the government had moved Daylight Savings Time out a weekend without contacting our Rear Commodore for permission. This meant we were actually starting at sundown. We collapsed the race to two starts and invented a really short course (Start to Knox to Finish) and finished the racers with flashlights to read sail numbers. With a welcoming barbeque and bar, a good time was had by all. Race results are now on the Club web site, www.cychistory.org right after the end of each race.

The series began in earnest on April 12, as last minute entries began to flood in. We are now up to about 70 boats entered, with more joining every week. As the days begin to stretch out, we are sending the fleet on longer and longer courses, which should make it more interesting and challenging for everyone.

June 15 will be an interesting race day. The guns will be banging as in the morning, we will be sending the Singlehanded Sailing Society’s TransPac fleet off to Hawaii, and in the afternoon, we will be hosting the Friendship Regatta between ourselves and Tiburon Yacht Club. Be sure to sign up for this friendly rivalry. Forms should be available at the Club Office and on the web site before the race.

Participation in Race Committee has been good, but there is always room for more. For a taste of the good life on Corinthian Yacht Club’s Race Deck, contact me at CYCRACE@YachtPC.com or Cliff Donoho at cdonoho@PacBell.net. It’s a fun way to help out the club.
