CYC's Educational Foundation
by Claude Bishop The Corinthian Sailing Education Foundation was created this past summer to promote sailing education and to encourage the development and preservation of historical archives and artifacts primarily related to boating and sailing within the greater Bay Area. This organization has been formed and is expected to be granted federal and state tax exempt status as a 501(c)(3) educational foundation. Therefore, your contribution to the foundation qualifies as a charitable contribution deductible for both federal and state income tax purposes. Since inception the foundation has been the beneficiary of the net proceeds from last summer's Speaker's Series, the contributions by Staff Commodores sponsorship of chairs for the recently renovated Memorial Library, and has received funds from the Casino Night at this past year's Commodore's Ball. At the outset a primary objective is to assist in the coordination, and in some cases underwrite programs and projects to preserve, catalog, and display club memorabilia, photos, art work, etc. for the education of sailing enthusiasts from the local yacht clubs, and the general public. As we build this foundation we will continue to develop programs for education and safety. There are plans to develop an endowment fund to help fund sailing education programs, and the foundation wants to assist in the expansion and development of the Corinthian Yacht Club's library. As a new organization, separate and apart from the Corinthian Yacht Club we are looking for volunteers to serve on the board and committees to develop the mission statement, define goals and objectives, create the necessary committees and agendas to carry out these objectives, and to carry on the work. If you are interested please contact Claude Bishop, or e-mail to csef@cychistory.org . Thanks in advance for your interest and support. |
