Harbor Happenings

By Matthew Gorton

This has been another busy month in the harbor. Julle LeVicke with Smogen III was granted a leave of absence for two months and Cliff Donoho with La Cavale for one month while they are traveling or their boats are in the yard. Ben Agee, with his new boat that just arrived from San Diego, will be sub letting Julle's berth while he is away.

Remember, if you are going away for more than a month, let us know, as we may be able to sublet your berth. If you are interest in a short-term sublet, please let me know.

Clay Prescott has accepted the new D14 berth and his boat will be arriving at the beginning of August. As you may have seen David Schwartz has bought a new boat LadyHawke - a 53' Hatteras - which he is keeping over in Sausalito. David has sold his old boat, also called LadyHawke, to David Gilbert. Both David's had 'BCD' line slips, as the little LadyHawke is still a big lady, we have reassigned their slips. David Schwartz will now be keeping his speed boat in D5, and David Gilbert will be take over C22 with the little LadyHawke.

The dredging report is in. Frank Dunn has been working overtime to complete this annual survey. So despite the reports of a lone fisherman in the fairways, it was actually Frank trying to find the bottom!  It appears that the harbor is silting up at about 5" a year. This is a little slower than before, however the bottom profile has not yet stabilized for the new wall configuration. The end result is that we need to keep saving as much as possible for the dredging fund.

At the next meeting the harbor committee is planning to revisit the guest berthing rules. With the near completion of the enlarged guest docks and tender basin, we want to review the current rules and see if they need to be updated. Please let me know if you have any comments.

As some of you may remember, the harbor committee has five members serving two-year terms. This October the seats currently taken by Eric Artman and Herb Rodricks are up for re-appointment by the board. The club by-laws require that the majority of the committee are harbor tenants which means these seats need to be filled by a current harbor tenant. To facilitate this, I am collecting nominations and volunteers who would like to be considered to fill these seats. It you are interested please give me a call, drop me a note, or send me an email by the end of August.
