PICYA News

By John Bogue

As the 2002 CYC delegate to PICYA, I would like to report that I am enjoying the camaraderie of many delegates I’ve met while visiting numerous yacht clubs (some nearby and some not so nearby) throughout the Bay and Delta regions.

At the July PICYA meeting at Driftwood Yacht Club, Rear Commodore Vern Bendsen reported that the Fall Management Conference would be held at the Vallejo Yacht Club on November 2. More information and registration forms will be posted on the CYC bulletin board and will be available in the Club office at a later date. Vern also mentioned that he has a contest in progress to select the boat-decorating theme for Opening Day 2003. If you have a suggestion, please contact Vern (PO Box 984, Suisun, CA 94585, ph: 707.422.3510).

The Tall Ships are coming! The historic, classic & navy tall ships and vessels from the United States and abroad will visit the San Francisco Bay from Monday, July 29 to Saturday, August 3. If you can play hooky from whatever you are doing on the 29th, this is an event worth planning to see from on the water or on land along the city front. For information regarding the schedule of events including public boarding of these fantastic ships and available volunteer positions while the ships are in port, please contact Sail San Francisco! 2002 (ph: 415.447.9823, website: www.sailsanfrancisco.org).

For current legislative updates concerning the continuing very worthwhile lobbying efforts of Recreational Boaters of California (RBOC), please visit their website: www.rboc.org.
