CYC/TYC Friendship Regatta

by Dan Carrico

Well, friends we did it! If you haven’t noticed yet, there is a beautiful new trophy behind the bar signifying a win over TYC’s raiding armada! This year, CYC racers were the better sailors. CYC had 12 boats to their 15 but since scoring adjusts for that we were just plain better. Going into the competition I was nervous, however. As co-creators of this “fun” event, Harry Blake and I envisioned a sort of seesaw with each club winning its share, but after two years of drubbing at the hands of TYC, I was worried, especially since some of our top racers like Bill Canada, Fred Conta and Harry had to race for TYC (racers with dual membership switch sides each year). But CYC boats took the top two places in both the spinnaker and non-spinnaker divisions:

Spinnaker Division: 1st - Mike Eagan’s Sabertooth;

Spinnaker Division 2nd - Charlie Brochard’s Baleineau.

Non-Spinnaker division: 1st – Kay Rudiger on Raccoon;

Non-Spinnaker Division 2nd –Jim Skaar on Peer Gynt V.

Of course every boat that raced contributed to our overall win. Congratulations to every CYC sailor. I say, “Let’s enjoy the trophy and start our team-building for next year when we will successfully defend it over in TYC waters.”
