Who Are Those Guys?

by Marcia Peck

Rusty Canada—Rusty is the son of Staff Commodore Bill Canada and his wife Chris and grandson of the late Russ Schneider and his widow, Bernice.

Rusty, 20, has been sailing since he was a young child. He has won numerous sailing honors in junior sailing, including the El Toro national championship in 1994 and has crewed on many of the most successful big boats on the Bay, including his uncle, Steve Schneider’s Islander 36, Absolute.

Rusty is currently on a mission to qualify for the 2004 Olympics (Athens) in the International 470 class. He and his skipper, Mikey Murison, will participate in the Miami Olympic Class Regatta in an effort to gain a berth on the US Sailing team.

Anyone wishing to make tax-deductible donations to their Olympic campaign can send checks to RYC Foundation – memo SF 470. For further information, Rusty can be reached at rustycanada@hotmail.com.
