Commodore’s Column

By Ron Roberts

Have you been having fun this summer? If so, you’ve probably been down at the club. If not, boy have you been missing out!

Race Chairman, Michael Moradzadeh, Rear Commodore Bruce Powell and all the wonderful support of the Race Committee have just completed a fantastic Friday Night Regatta. Thanks to everyone for a job well done!

The Commodore’s Picnic was a great success. Thanks to the talents of Teresa Prescott, Dan Carrico, Marcia Peck and The Corinthian Women, we had a wonderful afternoon of fun and games. Most people were too timid to try more than one of the Captain Ron’s Rum Drinks, but I had a few. It was great to see the kids have so much fun. It was a wonderful way to end the Labor Day Weekend, dancing above the bay and sharing good times with all our friends.

The Cruise to Half Moon Bay was great fun. For those of you have never been in the ocean, this is always a good way to give it a try. We cruised up Friday and the Weather was great; even better on Saturday. Sunday was pea soup fog again and the Harbor Master was happy again because he had been out of sorts from all the sunshine and heat! And, no, there were no problems for those who don’t have radar. We always take care of each other and make sure everyone makes it safely home.

Remember, those of you who don’t have boats. You don’t have to have a boat to go on a cruise. There’s usually a motel or two nearby at most of the harbors. Book a room and come join the group for drinks and dinner. You can even rent a houseboat at Tinsley Island. Going on the cruises is really a good way to get to know the members at the club.

The Grand Finale was the Commodore’s Ball on Saturday October 25th. This year we had dancing and casino style gambling—slots, card tables and craps. The proceeds from the gambling went to help preserve the artifacts at the club. The Bay Area Blues Society provided music for dancing throughout the evening. Photos from this event will be included in the next edition of the Telltale.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for giving your time, support and love. It has been an honor to be your Commodore.
