CYC WiFi Celebrates Its First Anniversary

by Bill Brady

Did you know the club has a WiFi network available for member use? One of the club’s best-kept secrets is the wireless, broadband internet access that members have been enjoying from their slips, from in and around the clubhouse, and in the case of one member, from his office on the ferry dock at Angel Island! Access is available to any member that has a wireless equipped laptop and has the know-how to connect to the network. Bandwidth is provided via a DSL connection, the cost of which is split among the members that use it. Last year the cost was only $60 per user for the entire year.

You’ll need an 802.11b (or “g”, we don’t yet support “a”) PC card for your laptop. Windows XP and Mac OSX computers are usually smart enough to recognize the PC card and configure themselves automatically. However, if you are using earlier versions of either operating system you’ll need to configure your wireless card to talk to “CYCHarbor” (for the techies: configure your SSID = CYCHarbor). The front office has some business cards printed with this information, in case you forget.

If you’d would to be added to the Corinthian Community WiFi mailing list, if you’d like to contribute, or if you’re unfamiliar with wireless networking, but have a laptop and would like to use it to connect to the internet at the club, please contact me: ccwadmin@sbcglobal.net.
